Microgrid and off-grid questions

Is a battery alone an off-grid energy system?

No. A practical off-grid system also requires appropriate generation, inverter capability, electrical protection, controls and enough stored energy for the required loads and operating conditions.

Can an existing solar installation be adapted for backup power?

Possibly. Compatibility depends on the inverter, electrical arrangement, battery system, controls and the loads that need to remain powered.

How is the required backup duration determined?

Backup duration is based on the selected critical loads, their power demand, expected operating time, available storage and any generation available during the outage.
